Craftsman Auto Care - Merrifield
My car would cut off often or wouldn’t start so I took it to CraftsMan auto. The staff was very welcoming, my car was looked at a timely manner and I got a new battery installed. They also showed me a few things that might need some work done in the near future so that was nice as well. Craftsman auto is a place I would definitely recommend to my friends and family. Used CAC-M for a couple of years now - for 4 of our family vehicles. Their work is good. However, their billing amounts are way above average. They also suggest and add services that they'd recently already performed on the vehicles (brake fluid exchange 3 times in less than two years on one vehicle) Recently brought a car in for what turned out to be a clutch replacement. They said $3200. I called AAMCO and was told $1095 for labor plus any parts needed - max amount being about $2k. CAC-M's billing of $150/hr is more than most I've spoken to. So, if money is no object, going here for work is likely great. I also suggest you monitor the actual work on each vehicle over time for too many of the same types of services on same vehicle. In response to the "owner's" response here: That is a flat out lie. I had a discussion with Bob Curry (when he managed this shop) a couple years ago. Some numbers were, imo, high (such as $585 dollars for a part that is $220 online (same exact brand/part - alternator - understanding 50%, or even doubling, but triple? ) plus other things. Never asked for credit then, either. Just said I need a good shop that I can trust to do a good job at a fair price for needed repairs, as I have 4-5 vehicles to maintain. Bob and I worked just fine together for the past couple of years. Now, he's gone. I got an estimate of over $4500 for some work, and happened to get the "district manager" on the phone, who was not a person I'd do business with. I showed specific reasons why this was ridiculous pricing and that I do not want to have these conversations - Just need to trust my shop. So, next morning called and spoke to Delonte, told him I'm coming in to pick up the vehicle. He was very nice and then said "look, I'll take $1600 off this estimate. I want to keep your business'. I was a bit uncomfortable at this point, but thought, ok, let's give this a shot at a continued relationship (but, really - $1600 right off the top of their quote). Now, I just had a broken down car towed there on Friday night. They said it needs a clutch - at $3200. Seemed high, so I did check around. First call, AAMCO, who was great on the phone, told me the charge - best and worst case. I called Delonte and told him I have a tow truck coming to pick up the car. He said 'OK". That was it. Done. The car is at AAMCO now. And, I'm done with their tactics. History of work on particular vehicles is not easy to monitor from customer receipts like some other shops, and other things: as I stand by my original note. Oh, and the brake fluid you say I was "given", was because I said "why am I paying for this, didn't I just get one on this car"? Now someone there posts lies about interactions that didn't even happen.. I know a lot of people around here - my integrity is not in question.

This is due to our highly skilled technicians, top of the line equipment, and 3 year/36,000 mile warranty that we provide on all repairs. Regarding your brake flushes - Our records indicate that we only provided 2 brake flushes, one of them we gave you for free meaning you have only paid for 1 brake flush service. During your most recent visit, we gave you an initial quote for your needed clutch replacement. After your call to another shop, you then asked us for $1,000 off. As like any business, we have a duty to pay our employees. At a $1,000 deduction we would be losing money. We still worked with you and were able to get you a significant discount, which you declined.
