Going to Craftsman on Saturday to get a quote was a gift of a decision for my 2007 Toyota Solara convertible that I love. My goal was to get three quotes. I called Mr. Tire, but because of the $46 charge to just look, I said no thanks. I called another small business, could only make a quote appointment that I just couldn't keep because Craftsman wowed me so much. Since Ray at Craftsman said he would make time, I drove over late Saturday afternoon for a quote. From the moment I stepped in, I felt very comfortable that Ray and his team were not going to take advantage. By the time I left, of course I dropped the goal to get three total quotes. I felt really good about Ray’s demeanor and quote, brought the car in on Monday morning at 7AM, and Ray waited for me to pick up, after 6PM. When I picked up, I was in awe at how Ray patiently explained what his team did, showed me that he reviewed the carfax report to thoroughly get to know my car’s condition and service history, explained future maintenance needs. That was so awesome, so.... By far, Ray provided the best car care service I’ve ever EVER had. Nothing short of PHENOMENAL … …

Review your bill carefully and beware of the service advisor. He begged me to allow them to diagnose a problem that I already had diagnosed. I had to beg him to just repair it. He put a $160 diagnostic fee on the bill and $45 for HazMat. How does putting a shift cable in the trash can incur a hazmat fee?
Charlie – When you initially had your vehicle towed to our shop, it would neither start or move and your vehicle’s battery was completely dead. We then called you to inform you that we would need to charge a diagnostic fee to begin looking at the vehicle to determine the issue. You requested that you did not want a diagnostic, and only for us to replace the shift cable. We listened to your request to only replace the shift cable and IF the vehicle still did not start after the replacement, you then agreed to pay us a diagnostic charge. We apologize and should have removed the diagnostic fee before the vehicle was picked up. The following day we spoke over the phone to which we then issued you a full refund for the diagnostic fee AND hazmat fee (which is a standard charge to properly dispose of vehicle parts). To answer your question as “How does putting a shift cable in the trash incur a hazmat fee?” - By law and ethical business practices, we recycle all our fluids and parts for metals. There’s a cost to this. Just like every business, this cost is carried onto the customer. We also have recycling standards for all of our fluids and tires and industry regulations that are mandated by law that we adhere to. Again, this cost is carried to the customer. To insinuate that we just throw away our discards is irresponsible and reckless and borderline slander. It’s unfortunate that you still felt the need to leave this review after the situation was corrected and you seemed pleased with the situation over the phone.
